The part that fell didn’t have much support at the join. Just above the break is the area where the two branches grew too closely together to support bark. Above that point, both parts had enough room to grow full trunks. Split Cedar in the Woods
The part that fell didn’t have much support at the join. Just above the break is the area where the two branches grew too closely together to support bark. Above that point, both parts had enough room to grow full trunks. It’s surprising that this narrow slice of living wood was strong enough to support the weight of the tree for this long.

ReplyDeleteHi, Lois. I've been in my yard and heard trees fall in the woods. They do make a lot of noise. After one bad ice storm, I heard so many cracks and crashes that I wondered if there were going to be any trees left.
